Synopsis - Gymnast Caroline Kepler has three state balance beam titles, a new trick even most elites can’t do, and chronic, undeniable back pain. My Review - this book follows a girl as she's forced to quit gymnasts for the sake of her health. She starts hanging out with her brother's best friend who introduces her to other sports.  There was a lot of tennis in this book which I loved! I'm not a sporty person but I thought the mini sport dates were really cute. I also had a lot of fun making a playlist for this!

About the Author:

Sarah Henning is a recovering journalist who has worked for the Palm Beach Post, Kansas City Star and Associated Press, among others. When not writing, she runs ultramarathons, hits the playground with her two kids, and hangs out with her husband Justin, who doubles as her long-suffering IT department. Sarah lives in Lawrence, Kansas, hometown of Langston Hughes, William S. Burroughs, and a really good basketball team. 

Sarah is the author of SEA WITCH, which was a 2018 Indies Introduce and Indie’s Next selection. Its follow up, SEA WITCH RISING, came out in 2019. THROW LIKE A GIRL, about a down-spiraling softball player who is recruited to play quarterback on her ex-boyfriend’s football team, was her first YA contemporary novel and came out in January 2020. THE PRINCESS WILL SAVE YOU, the first book in her fantasy trilogy—a feminist tale inspired by The Princess Bride—came out in July 2020. Its sequel, THE QUEEN WILL BETRAY YOU, came out on July 6, 2021.

Other upcoming projects include THE KING WILL KILL YOU, available August 2, 2022 and will be the conclusion to her Kingdoms of Sand & Sky Trilogy inspired by The Princess Bride. Also scheduled for summer 2022 is IT’S ALL IN HOW YOU FALL, available May 31, 2022, which takes place in the same fictional universe as THROW LIKE A GIRL. Slated for summer 2023 is OUT OF OUR LEAGUE, a YA anthology of contemporary short stories about girls in sports.

Spring/Summer Fantasy Recommendations

Hemlock Queen - 4/5 stars, sequel to the Foxglove King. Romantasy! I can't be the only one pining for Bastian, Gabriel and Lore to just all be together right guys? Give me book three after that cliffhanger. Really enjoyed the gods backstory in this one and how they are all tied together.   A Feather so Black - a fun adult romantasy for fans of the Cruel Prince and Emily Wilde. Fae, changelings and curses galore. It's also a swan lake retelling! This book set out to do a lot in 500 pages and pulls it off well. Excited for book 2 in the series.  Lady of Light and Shadows - 4/5 stars. Second book in the Tairen Soul series, now with new covers! This is a romantasy series for fans of acotar. I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first. Absolutely despise the main character's mother. Book Info: A Darker Mischief by Derek Milman Genre: Young Adult Mystery/Thriller Publishing Date: July 2, 2024 Review - 4/5 stars  This was a fun queer dark academia YA thriller. I would say this is definitely more upper YA, I don't think I would have understood most of this or it would've been too much at ages 14-16. There's a lot of interesting history/architect information that made it feel dark academia.
