Jan 2026 Reading Wrapup

 Spiri's Jan 2026 Wrapped! This year, the goal is actually to read LESS books, and experience life a lil more! Unfortunately, I have read a lil less and not done much experiencing since this winter has brought back childhood asthma full force. Here's some books I've read when I've had the energy!


Series Update!

Exile - book 2 in the Keeper in The Lost Cities series. The first book I actually read in graphic novel form, so this was the first time reading it in novel form? What is the opposite of a graphic novel? Anyways, this one introduces an alicorn which is very fun. Did it need to be 576 pages? no. Will I continue on with this series? Yes. 

Best Book this Month:

I read an arc of Dhampire by Amy Pennza. This is a fantasy/why choose vampire romance. Our main character is Corinthe, who discovers she's a long last heir of a ruthless vampire king. There's court intrigue, blood sucking ability stealing, and the boyfriends are boyfriends. Excellent 5/5 poly romantasy beginnings here. Gimme book 2. 

Worst Book this Month: The Things Gods Break 

Considering that THIS was my review for book 1:

** spoiler alert ** Spoilers ahead 
i feel insulted that Percy Jackson was a comp title for this book. 
My autistic ass would have died immediately after trying to ask the gods fifty questions about the rules of each labor. They’d give two sentences of instructions and be like bye babes good luck! 
so first(actually last) we have sirens not interested in her because of this unloveable curse Zeus gave her as a 1 day old baby(and it’s like?? Why did he curse a baby? Did i miss this part? Is it just cause of where her mom gave birth lol?? Also her abusive parents are not addressed, though it ends on a cliffhanger for a second book) the curses rules(which to be fair, are never really thoroughly explained!) also seem to just change to fit wherever the romance/plot needs to be at the moment. Hades had zero personality. And lyra’s entire personality is just being way too kind to people who want to kill her. I only like her because she likes animals. 
then we have this hades/persephone SIBLING ???? ! Relationship??? idk yall this had some fun moments, I did laugh a few times and it was pretty suspenseful I read it in almost one sitting to get to the last labor but jesus this felt like a self insert hades fanfic 
Will I read book 2? Yeah 🤠

I don't know why I gave book 2 a try. I guess because I said I would. No one let me try to read book 3.
